I haven’t always been so interested in health and fitness. Growing up I was a chubby kid with poor eating habits and I wasn’t comfortable in my skin. I knew that I had it in me to be so much more and it wasn't just about the weight.
In my late teens/early 20's I decided that I’d had enough wallowing and blaming my weight on my genetics. I made the commitment to myself to get healthy. I started exercising and it definitely didn't feel easy but I kept showing up and every day I could stay on the stair stepper a little longer or go a little faster. I was losing the weight and feeling energized however didn't know a lot about good nutrition. Although I was exercising I wasn't feeding my body the nutrients that an active body needs. I tried low-fat & low-carb diets, eating ‘diet’ (nutrient free!) type foods and was becoming a thiner version of me but not necessarily a healthy one. Fast forward to now and nutrition is my passion. I realize that in order to truly feel and recover our best nutrition IS the key. I have finally gotten to a place in my life where I feel like I have struck the balance in nutrition and exercise in order to optimize my health.
I feel energized (except when my kids have me up all night 😉 ), and, most importantly, I FEEL healthy and happy. Don't get me wrong, I have bad days however I know the tools that are key for me in order to keep working for my happiness.
Personal Training and Health Coach Certifications:
While at home with my two young daughters, I obtained my Personal Training and Health Coach Certifications from The American Council on Exercise. I also have a nutrition certification through Precision Nutrition, which is a program that seems tailor made for me as they teach a common sense approach to nutrition that is closely aligned with how I live. Obtaining these certifications along with the development of life coaching skills have allowed me to feel confident in my knowledge and ability to help my clients find their way.
I am extremely passionate about promoting healthy habits to our children.
We live in a society where treats are no longer treats, but instead the norm. Some think that kids can ‘afford’ to eat nothing but junk. Educating children on the importance of good nutrition will serve them throughout their lives by helping them to make wise choices to nourish their bodies and minds. With the onslaught of technology it’s very easy for kids to be sedentary and as parents we have this opportunity to get outside with our kids and to engage them in activities that build confidence. Proper activity, nutrition, and rest are vital to the healthy development of little minds and bodies. We have this amazing opportunity to be role models for our children, let's not waste it!
I don’t believe in fad diets, quick fixes, or doing endless hours of exercise. Challenging the body to increase fitness is key, but over training is not the answer. Eating healthfully is important but you shouldn’t be starving. Again, finding the balance is key.
As a wife, mom, and health and wellness coach with a jam-packed schedule, I fully realize the demands of making you and your family’s health a priority. It is worth the time and it IS possible! You and your family ARE worth it.
